10 Ways How to Maintain your Sanity During Quarantine

How you doing’? (Joey from Friends voice) There is no denying that things are straight up weird given the current state of the world. Seriously, could we please press replay on 2020 already? As many of you know in addition to Fashology I do work full time, in my office we are working from home until further notice as many other companies. The first few days I was working off a laptop, once I heard whispers of working from home until 4/20/20 I had to swing by the office to get one of my monitors. Needless to say my productivity increased 100%. We are in this together, a lot of you are working from home with your kids home as well. Girl, YOU ARE DOING YOUR BEST! Don’t you forget that. Whether you are working from home with furry children like me or with your human children I have compiled a list of 10 things that I am sticking to in order to stay sane while in quarantine.

  1. Stay in a routine: Try to stick as close to your normal routine as you can. For the first week I didn’t adhere to this as much as I liked. The weekend I was a lazy bag of bones but sticking to a routine will give you a reason to get up or outside.

  2. Get ready: For the love of God please continue to take care of yourself. I’m not saying wear a full face of makeup everyday but SHOWER & do your hair if you are feeling fancy. Trade the yoga pants in for jeans Monday-Friday. When you look good you feel good & this shouldn’t end just because you are working from home. Trust there was 1 day I didn’t shower & ate hot pockets, I felt like a slob & not myself. You do you even at home!

  3. Meal Prep: Did you stock up on Quarantine snacks? Eat what is available, you do still have the opportunity to meal prep. My hot pocket day was a dark day I indulged in chips & cookies as well. The next day I meal prepped stuffed peppers for the rest of the week & felt like a new woman.

  4. Limit Work Time: Working from home it is easy to just stay logged on for hours on end. You get caught up but, for your own sake stick to your regular worked hours. I promise you will feel more at peace.

  5. “Standing Desk” Time: From 3:00pm-5:00pm Monday-Friday I have constituted this as my standing desk time. I don’t have a standing desk at work but typically I get my steps in running from meeting to meeting. I don’t have a standing desk at home either. I utilize my kitchen counters as a standing desk. This allows me to get off my booty & stretch my legs.

  6. Learn a new language: You logged off from work but now what is there to do? Learn a new language! I am learning Portuguese with the Duolingo app. You can sign up for free & spend as little as 10 minutes a day learning the language of your choice.

  7. Reflect: Take time to do some inner work. If you are anything like me you probably put this stuff off. Personally, I love the Start Today Journal by Rachel Hollis. It helps you set some serious intentional & achievable goals by speaking them into existence like you have accomplished them in the present.

  8. Self care: Never have time to take care of yourself? Well sister, since you can’t leave the house you have plenty of time now! Face masks are a super easy way to practice self care, my favorites are from CLN&DRTY. You can get 20% of their full priced products with our code: FASHOLOGY20. They also have some great bath bombs on sale!

  9. Virtual Cocktail Hours: I am a huge advocate for girl time. You may not be able to meet your friends for dinner or shopping but you can have a virtual cocktail hour (or coffee hour) via FaceTime, Zoom, or other video calling services. I have one set up for Saturday!

  10. Workout at Home: The gyms are closed. Even if you don’t regularly hit the gym it is important to move your body durning this time. Peloton is offering a 90 FREE trail of their workout app. You don’t need to buy the bike or treadmill & they have a variety of different workouts spanning from 10-30minutes. There are a lot of instructors also doing instagram live workouts that I have seen in our feed, I highly recommend taking advantage of those. Maybe working out isn’t your thing, go for a walk outside! Breathe the fresh air.

There are plenty of other things you can do to stay preoccupied during this time like use one of those adult coloring books that were all the rage a few years ago, binge that Netflix series you have been meaning to watch, read, organize your home & more. There are a ton of small business owners offering virtual classes during this Quarantine time, take them up on their offers! Instead of thinking of this time as “being stuck at home” use this as an opportunity to hit the reset button. This time is uncertain & strange but we will get through this together (virtually). We are always here to chat if you need someone! Sending you a giant virtual hug.

One last thing, thank you to the truckers, grocery workers, medical professionals, sanitation staff, & everyone still working to keep the world going. On behalf of myself & everyone else, we appreciate you!
