HI Fashology Family! I am passing the keyboard to our social media marketing intern, Tatiana this week. She is delivering us 3 Best Dermatologist recommended products & tips to help with acne. Enjoy! XO, Gigi
Ever since the pandemic started and we were required to wear face masks out in public, I began developing acne. As soon as one pimple was gone, another would form, and it would be a never-ending story!
A few weeks ago, with a huge pimple on my cheek, I embarrassingly Face Timed with my cousin, Marisela, who works at Aspire Dermatology in Rhode Island. She provided some tips straight from the dermatologist that would help me with my acne problem. Turns out it was the face mask I was using that was irritating my skin and that I could easily prevent the acne from forming by following a few easy steps and buying a product that would help get rid of them.
I’m sure we are all familiar with the different skin types, whether it is oily, dry, or a combination of both. We need to try out various face masks with different materials to test out which one irritates our skin the least. If you know the face mask is not the cause of your acne, then consider changing your diet to a healthier one or see if enforcing a simple skin care routine can correct it.
If you are having skin problems and developing acne, then consider one of the products I’ve listed below recommended by a dermatologist:

If you are having skin problems and developing acne, then consider one of the products I’ve listed below recommended by a dermatologist:
1. Benzoyl peroxide 10% – PanOxyl Brand
Meant to remove the bacteria from your skin and helps with the flare ups. Please note that it will dry out your pores so if you have sensitive skin you might want to try the gentler version (see product number 2 for reference)
2. Benzoyl peroxide 4% - PanOxyl brand
Similar benefits to that of the Benzoyl peroxide 10% mentioned in product number one but it is gentler on your face. With sensitive skin, you will want to start with this one first.
3. Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% (Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment) – La Roche Posay
This product comes in the form of a gel and its purpose is to help with the oiliness of your skin. It can work on a spot treatment to wear under your mask. You must keep in mind that when you wear your face mask it can get pretty humid under there and with this gel it dries out your skin to help prevent acne or get rid of it.
If you go to the dermatologist looking for a remedy for sensitive skin, they recommend an over-the-counter product. A lot of people want the prescription Tretinoin (AKA liquid gold) because it works wonders, the only problem is it is expensive but can go through your insurance if you have it. It works partly by keeping skin pores clear. One of the tretinoin creams is used to treat fine wrinkles, dark spots, or rough skin on the face caused by the damaging rays of the sun which is what makes this product so popular!
Tips:
If you work long hours, or if you know you will wear the face mask for a long period of time, switch out the face mask so that you do not expose your face to humidity which can lead to pimples. When switching out the face masks, make sure to wash it prior to using it again if its cotton (it is not better for the skin if its dirty). When you get a chance during bathroom breaks or lunch breaks wash your face (with water is just fine).
Since the mask mandate will soon be lifted, we can take care of our skin by having a skin care routine in place. When washing your face, please note that a dermatologist strongly recommends you go basic with skin care products. Basic is good for the skin when it comes to skin care ingredients because it will not have fragrance, dyes, or a long list of ingredients that may be harmful.
Wash with fragrance free because the fragrance can irritate the skin and look for Dermatologist tested or approved when browsing for skin care products.
Cheers to an acne-free face!!!
XO, Tatiana
